DESCRIPTION

The Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science will commence its first year with over 80 primary salaried faculty, 25 secondary faculty, and 200+ personnel. The School will include activities from 5 - 6 divisions and 5 research centers of excellence moving from the SOM Department of FMPH. The School will house five recharge cores providing services to UCSD and external customers. Research in the School will include ~$125M total awarded grants and contracts.

The School has and administers two PhD programs (Public Health and Biostatistics), a Master of Public Health professional degree program, an MS in Biostatistics, the only Health Sciences undergraduate program (BSPH), and an MAS in Leadership of Healthcare Organizations run in conjunction with Extension.

Under direct guidance of senior researcher, applies acquired skills and knowledge of applicable research discipline to support field research projects of small to medium size and intermediate scope and complexity, including but not limited to research in environmental, public health, social or biological science disciplines.

Responsibilities include coordination and close monitoring of research projects. Responsible for data-related tasks (management, cleaning, organization, descriptive analyses), and editing/writing related to project deliverables (including but not limited to research reports, manuscripts, protocols) and funding proposals. The incumbent will also be responsible for assisting with monitoring the progress of project deliverables and study implementation. Regular, professional communication with project teams is expected. On occasion, this position may require local, domestic or international travel to visit study sites and/or study partners for the purposes of planning, data collection and/or dissemination.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's Degree in related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Two (2+) years of related experience. Relative experience includes public health research, cross cultural research, or science communication with adults and/or K-12 aged population.
  • Thorough working knowledge of safety, legal, cultural and regulatory requirements relative to field research responsibility.
  • Working knowledge of research discipline, principles, concepts, analysis and/or operations being conducted at field/remote sites.
  • Working knowledge of local customs and operations at field/remote sites.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships and partnerships with remote research partners.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with a team, and to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to work in ambiguous conditions.
  • Proficient research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with project team members.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree in public health or related field.
  • Experience with qualitative or quantitative data analysis.
  • Experience with manuscript, report, and grant preparation.
  • Knowledge of UCSD policies and procedures.
