Top San Diego Jobs

The unemployment rate in San Diego is lower than the national average and the average salary is higher than the national average.

The largest industries are military, tourism, education, technology, health care and research and Biotechnology. San Diego's location (next to the beautiful Pacific Ocean) attracks the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps, which are some of the area's largest employers. Several national defense contractors, including BAE Systems and Northrop Grumman, have offices in the region, and General Dynamics NASSCO and General Atomics are just a few of the companies employing engineers and manufacturers to build and fix ships.

Our beautiful landscape and weather have been attracting tourists from the beginning. Cruise ships have been stopping in San Diego for years, adding to the already dynamic tourism industry. Many tourism-related jobs are year-round, others seasonal. Over 35 million people flock to San Diego every year.

San Diego is home to several large technology companies like Qualcomm, SAIC and so many more. In fact, San Diego is one of only 5 cities in the country who have increased jobs in technology over the last five years (over 20%).

Jobs in education are vast thanks to UCSD, SDSU, USD, and Point Loma Nazarene, along with multiple Community Colleges. San Diego is home to the second largest school district in California.

Healthcare jobs are also plentiful with health providers such as Scripps, Kaiser Permanente, UCSD, and Sharp. Another fast growing sector to add employment is the Biotech Industry. Thanks in part to San Diego's beauty and weather, our terrific universities have encouraged Biotech companies to build here.

Whether you have a Ph.D or looking for your first job, San Diego has so much to offer.
