LPL is seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Vice President of Communications and Public Relations who will inform the company’s brand and reputation through effective engagement with clients, employees, partners, press, and other key stakeholders. A strategic master of storytelling with an innate ability to simplify complex matters into compelling messaging, the individual in this role thrives in highly collaborative, fast-paced environments. The ideal candidate is as effective at strategic positioning as they are in implementation, simultaneously managing multiple communication programs, defining clear protocols, addressing various audiences, leveraging a multitude of channels, creating connections across messaging platforms and measuring outcomes.

Job Overview:

In this role, you’ll lead a team of communications professionals who collaborate to shape and deliver communication plans for our clients and for employees. You will also integrate the company’s business group public relations team with LPL’s corporate PR function to create a singular high-performing organization that represents LPL with industry, business and general interest press. In addition, you’ll advance the company’s centers of excellence for executive thought leadership and social media management, ensuring that LPL is both effectively personifying its brand through relevant perspectives as well as amplifying these insights through social and other digital media. For our clients, employees, press and partners, this role is organically bringing the most relevant messages at the right moments to deliver a modern approach to stakeholder engagement.  You will report to our Chief Marketing and Communications Officer and will collaborate with your colleagues to define key messages around issues management as well as advisor recruitment, product and service launches, technology updates/advancements, new partnerships and other opportunities that feature LPL’s role in helping our clients advance their business and our employees get the most from their workplace. You will identify and tell compelling stories that highlight the progress we’re making. You’ll inspire your team to do the same, contributing to a culture of creative and intellectual curiosity.

You’ll act as a trusted counselor to our senior leadership team, partnering closely with our executive team and CEO, earning their respect so that your contributions are consistently required to advance our business.

You are an exceptional writer and editor and willing to use your talents to be part of the storytelling and message mapping that drives positive engagement with our stakeholders. As a strategic thinker, you’re looking around corners and being proactive with recommendations to convey our brand narrative and enhance our reputation. You are willing to test, learn, fail, adapt and take an agile approach to using our owned communication channels, including social media.  

You’ll have experience leading and motivating a team and working cross functionally across an organization. You’re as comfortable working with executives, peers and reporters as you are defining key thought leadership pillars and social strategies. You’re willing to roll up your sleeves and be an active and noticeable contributor. Your success is defined by the measurement of our clients and employees’ satisfaction, the safeguarding of our reputation, and the advancement of our brand in the wealth management industry.  

Responsibilities:

  • Exceptional Team Leadership: Develop a high-performing team of communications professionals who are respected for their contributions in supporting LPL’s business objectives. Bring out the best from your team members and agency partners to create a complementary skill base.
  • Strategic Communication Planning: Both proactive and reactive and across all facets of the business that help deliver exceptional client and employee experiences, nurturing the company’s reputation internally and externally.
  • Media & Public Relations: Work directly with industry and top-tier media both to amplify the company’s business progress as well as to mitigate any reputational risk by being informative, accurate, responsive, and intentional.
  • Issues Management: Develop and implement playbooks to ensure the company is well prepared to manage any potential issues that may arise. Serve as a media spokesperson as needed. Collaborate with agency teams to leverage best-in-class counsel and support.
  • Social Media Management: Lead the team responsible for the voice of LPL on owned social channels, leveraging social for stakeholder engagement and as a reflection of the company’s brand voice and visual identity.
  • Executive Thought Leadership: Personify the brand through the insights and perspectives of LPL’s leadership, championing the development of content pillars for key leaders that are brought to life through social and press engagement, guest bylines, speaking opportunities, and more.
  • Oversee and further refine the LPL Communications Council, which serves to unite the various sources of executive communication support and ensure consistency of messaging.

What are we looking for?

Requirements:

  • 20+ years of communications experience with a strong background in both corporate and financial services communications.
  • Depth and breadth of knowledge in a regulated industry with a proven track record of simplifying complex matters and indexing high on storytelling across multiple stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of digital and social communication channels and outcomes measurement.  Experience building and shaping robust B2B2C social media initiatives.
  • Experience working in a Fortune 500, fast-paced, dynamic company.
  • Proven experience as a trusted communications advisor to senior executives. 
  • Deep knowledge base in building productive relationships with reporters, editors and key industry influencers.
  • Success in developing an impactful, sustaining thought leadership program that brings a compelling human touch to the brand.
  • Impressive track record of hiring, mentoring, and retaining a high-performing communications team.
  • Highly effective writer, editor and contributor.
  • Respected for building a measurable cycle of advocacy, especially among clients and employees, through clear, concise and compelling communication strategies.

This role is located in the company’s corporate headquarters in San Diego. Hybrid or remote working are not an option for this role.


 

Pay Range:

$184,400-$276,600/year


 

Actual base salary varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
