Under the supervision of the Director of Programs and Operations, the Student Success Center (Center) Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the development of programs and outreach initiatives for students. Responsible for initiating, maintaining and expanding partnerships, programs, and initiatives, and coordinating with UCSD-wide resources and external partners. Coordinates and plans related to promotional events. Assists with the day-to-day operation of a suite of programs which support the academic success and professional development of students in DPS.

  • Must be available to work occasional overtime during evenings and weekends as needed.


  • Strong knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design.
  • Proven knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.
  • Strong ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs, problem identification, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills.
  • Experience planning and implementing activities, programs, panel discussions, events. Experience organizing timeframes and deliverables. Experience organizing and implementing logistical details associated with activities/events.
  • Experience drafting brochures, eblasts, and other promotional materials. Experience writing content for the web and for social media.
  • Experience developing a basic marketing plan based on strategic goals and a targeted audience. Knowledge of accepted principles and practices of marketing.
  • Strong experience working with databases, seeking out and capturing information from a variety of data sources. Experience seeking out effective means to update information, identify new sources of information.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and creating spreadsheets to organize non-financial and financial information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
