The MAC-Software organization is primarily responsible for delivering the Medium Access Control (MAC) embedded software modules, which implement the Kuiper Radio Interface protocol stack and drive the operation of the Kuiper modems. The MAC layer is responsible for radio link establishment, teardown and multi-Gbps data transfers between the Kuiper Satellites and Ground Systems (Ground Gateways and Customer Terminals ) per control-plane contact orchestration and inter-operating with the phased-array antenna control systems for steering radio beams.Key job responsibilitiesThe Principal Engineer (PE) in the MAC-Software organization will own (1) delivering MAC-layer and the run-time platform features, (2) optimize performance of the MAC-Software while maintaining stability of the Kuiper payload on the satellites in the orbit and the ground systems, (3) achieve the scale of Kuiper’s connectivity footprint to meet and exceed business KPIs (throughput, latency, packet loss etc.) and (4) lead MAC team for readiness for meeting the Kuiper general-availability goal (GA). The PE will work cross-functionally with the leaders across Systems Engineering, ASIC, hardware, networking, Payload integration and mission operations teams to develop requirements and technical strategy and provide guidance on the priorities for the MAC-Software team, and dive deep into the system-level field use cases and solve technical challenges.
