Illumina Laboratory Services (ILS), a CLIA/CAP-accredited laboratory, is recruiting an exceptional individual to lead its development and engineering teams. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a cross-functional group, directing a broad team of engineers and scientists to sustain existing Illumina service offerings and drive implementation of new assays and technologies into scalable clinical laboratory service offerings. This position will report to the Senior Director of Lab Operations and collaborate with senior leadership to define strategy and goals and drive delivery against those goals. Responsibilities Direct, mentor, and coach a multi-site team of managers, engineers, and scientists responsible for end to end lifecycle management of service laboratory assay portfolios. Develop and drive adherence to annual development budgets for development and engineering department Establish and maintain close collaborations with Illumina product development groups to maintain awareness of product development pipeline and potential for opportunities within ILS. Work with key stakeholders to assess concept and feasibility of new opportunities within ILS. Drive culture of change and continuous improvement across organization, while adhering to regulatory requirements and best practices. Work with ILS software and bioinformatics leadership to provide user requirements for information management systems, as necessary. Maintain and refine organizational agility for supporting automated and manual scale assay offerings through various lifecycle stages. Drive cross-functional alignment to meet and maintain CLIA/CAP/NYS regulatory requirements during development, validation, and study design execution. Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences, Engineering, or related field with minimum of 18 years of relevant industry experience. 10+ years management experience in a laboratory environment, ideally in a clinical high complexity molecular testing environment with scaled operations Proven track record of implementing assays and technologies into a laboratory operation Demonstrated experience in characterization and testing of complex systems, including design of experiments and root cause analysis Demonstrated success in building and growing innovative development and engineering teams. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills with senior leadership Track record of strong interpersonal skills to collaborate and lead change in cross-functional teams 10% travel required Concerns regarding COVID-19 continue as positive cases are experienced in the communities in which we operate.
