This position reports to the Vice President, Controller and is responsible for the planning, managing and performance for General Atomics – Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS). Directs general accounting, financial analysis, cost accounting and budgeting support for GA-EMS. Directs the preparation of various accounting/financial reports and analyses to monitor overall financial performance. Collaborates with senior management in the development and modification of accounting/financial policies, procedures, and practices and ensures that accounting/finance and cost control activities are successfully implemented and meet overall objectives and required regulatory standards while improving efficiency. Collaborates with senior management in the development and implementation of annual and long-term financial and strategic business objectives.). Typically accomplishes objectives through sub-ordinate management. May represent the GA-EMS with customers and government representatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides financial leadership, guidance and strategy operating as a business partner and trusted advisor to the business unit leadership.
Assists in business unit financial matters, including providing sound financial advice, decision-making, and proactively identifying business issues and driving resolution in a timely manner.
Directs aspects of the business unit including sale orders, revenue, profit, cash monitoring and forecast inventory, billed and unbilled receivables.
Engages in pricing and proposal activities; to include participating in pricing strategy, bid reviews and negotiation support.
Provides insight delivered to non- finance managers, including potential actions for recovery to plans.
Responsible for accurate and timely financial planning/budgeting and reporting, including processes and systems, submission of annual budget and mid-year forecasts to the home office, preparation of presentations to senior/executive leadership, and banks of latest revised estimates and ad-hoc analytics and reporting.
Leads the coordination of monthly submissions of actual results and variance analysis. Accumulating and leveraging historical data to drive better forecasting.
Reviews and challenges when necessary budgets/forecasts, performance and other metrics.
Works cross functionally to help ensure efficient business processes, strong operational results and profitability of the business unit.
Provides guidance for improving financial performance of the business unit portfolio and the development of long term strategic plans ensuring investments are aligned with those plans.
Ensures accuracy of financial results for monthly/quarterly close process.
Monitors/updates controls and procedures to ensure quality and reliability of financial information and reporting, including monitoring discretionary and capital expenditures to ensure government rate and cash flow targets are met.

Typically requires a Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline and fifteen or more years of progressively complex experience in finance/accounting with at least nine of those years in management.
An MBA in business or related field, CPA or CMA certification, and/or experience negotiating accounting issues with government agencies is highly desirable.
Must have experience in a commercial or government contractor environment.
Must demonstrate a detailed and extensive application of industry and government finance/accounting management principles and practices as well as comprehensive finance/accounting management and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.
Must be able to resolve complex management and finance/accounting problems; serve as spokesperson on projects and/or programs; and be an expert in one or more finance/accounting management areas.
Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required.
Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment, and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
