Director, Public Relations - US1 Summary We are seeking an experienced Public Relations (PR) professional to join the Illumina Communications Team as Head of PR. This role is responsible for leading the company’s media and executive visibility strategies, as well as developing campaigns that showcase our industry-leading research and innovations. The Head of PR is responsible for Illumina’s PR strategy. They build and foster positive relationships with key writers, reporters, and correspondents across the media landscape to advance the company’s communications and business priorities. They also partner with others on the Communications team to develop storytelling and proactive brand-building strategies. This is a highly collaborative position that works closely with executives and key stakeholders across the enterprise and geographies. The Head of PR will also serve as the chief spokesperson for the company. The Head of PR reports to the Senior Director, External Communications and will supervise members of the PR Team. Responsibilities Include: Lead the Public Relations function for Illumina Develop earned, owned, and shared media strategies to showcase the Illumina story in print, broadcast, and online media Build and foster positive relationships with key science writers, reporters, and correspondents at key print, online and broadcast media outlets Manage media inquiries and interview requests in a timely manner Develop, write, and distribute effective communications materials including press releases, messaging documents, talking points, and briefing documents Provide media coaching and support for Illumina’s leadership and scientific members Build and elevate external profiles for investigators and leaders and seek out external facing opportunities to drive visibility and thought leadership Ensure Illumina has an updated media contact list at all times Monitor, analyze, and communicate media relations results on a quarterly basis and modify PR strategies accordingly Other duties as assigned Experience and Qualifications: BA/BS or MS Degree in public relations, journalism, communications or related field 15+ years of directly relevant communications experience with at least 10 years of media/public relations experience with proven success garnering earned media 7-10 years of media relations/public relations experience (in life sciences or healthcare preferred) Proven success in developing and executing marquis media relations programs Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite Excellent communications and project management skills Proven superior writing skills across a range of mediums (press releases, reporter pitches, presentation scripts) #LI-Hybrid #LI-Remote The estimated base salary range for the Head of Public Relations role based in the United States of America is: $167,200 - $250,800. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
