In collaboration with management, serves as Team Lead to provide daily work assignments to team of Technicians and welders, oversee technical work, and provide technical solutions where applicable. While supervising, completes technical work to fabricate, modify, assemble, install, operate, repair, and maintain complex production equipment and experimental apparatus. May perform design of moderately complex equipment. Conducts -sophisticated tests and experiments, . Summarizes test data via written tabulation, charts, and graphs, and prepares written reports.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees labor resources, materials and schedules to complete production activities
  • Assigns daily work to team of technicians and welders based on priorities and production requirements
  • Reviews, approves, and corrects timekeeping entries as needed to ensure accurate time charging for the team. Establishes or adjusts work procedures/processes to meet production schedules. Recommends measures to improve production methods
  • Responsible for fabrication, modification, installation, testing, and documentation of complex laboratory and experimental equipment/products such as but limited to, coil winding systems, vacuum systems, cryogenic systems, specialized mechanical test systems, complex magnet flux mapping systems, electrical/electronic control and measuring systems, and mechanical measuring systems.
  • Operates specialized equipment or performs tests requiring knowledge of processes.
  • Interprets general instructions, plans sequence of assembly, maintains quality assurance documentation and prepares sketches and schematics.
  • Assists in the design of complex equipment and may perform the design of moderately complex equipment. Makes recommendations concerning design or feasibility of developmental, test, or experimental equipment.
  • Generates detailed rework or prototype procedures and is responsible for prototype or rework fabrication supervision.
  • Diagnoses and corrects operational problems or trouble sources in production or test equipment. Develops maintenance program to prevent shutdown.
  • Initiates procurement of standard materials, services, and parts required for tests and equipment, and provides necessary liaison in work area.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
Additional Functions:
  • Participates in budgeting, scheduling and cost estimating of work as applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires associate’s degree or equivalent with training from the military and/or a trade school and twelve or more years of experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Ability to train and lead others.
  • Proficient in computer operations and applications pertinent to the field.
  • Analytical ability to interpret detailed instructions, drawings and specifications.
  • Competencies to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to diagnose complex mechanical/electrical problems and find effective solutions.
  • Communication skills necessary to write and record precise information and submit reports.
  • Special skills and expertise to use complex equipment or experimental techniques.
