Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for a Software Engineering Manager 2 (S02) position. The selected candidate will be responsible for the functional management of the software engineering personnel under the Core Vehicle Management System (CVMS) Products for the Software Team. The position will report to the Core VMS Chief Engineer (CVMS) organization for their assignment tasking. The manager will be overseeing software personnel specializing in Embedded Software, DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, Integration, SW Development, and Deployment of manned and unmanned systems. It will be in San Diego, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting performance assessments, staffing, employee development, communication meetings, disciplinary actions, compensation adjustments, training & educational oversight/ approval, and other routine personnel issues
  • Responsible for establishing common processes and practices in cooperation with colleague managers across the sector
  • Develop requirements and negotiate with the customer where needed; develop designs and software in a team environment; and be able to provide technical guidance for junior engineers, provide leadership integrating software in a laboratory environment, and able to develop the complete documentation set required for the software life cycle
  • This role will work closely with program-assigned systems engineering, software development, and management professionals to ensure that the software lifecycle is accomplished with high quality and efficiency
  • Ability to track both the quality and timeliness of the organization’s products, and identification and remediation of potential issues before they become problems
  • Develop and manage detailed budgets and schedules and make work assignments for indirect tasking
  • Knowledge of, and experience working in, all phases for the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Collaborate directly with software development and other engineering discipline teams to develop, write, document, and execute software requirement verification, code, and integration, tests, including identifying and tracking issues through resolution
  • Analyze software and system requirements allocated to computer software configuration items (CSCI)
  • Support software integration with hardware components in systems integration labs and other integrated test environments
  • Utilize software development skills to design, develop, maintain, and execute tests: unit, integration, regression
  • Ensure that thorough, clear, and complete documentation is created and maintained to support current and future integration activities
  • Build up and configure the Software Integration Lab (SIL) to perform software integration and testing activities

Basic Required Qualifications:

  • Must have either a Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of related engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 7 years of software engineering experience or a PhD n a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years’ experience
  • Solid understanding of software engineering best practices and the software development lifecycle: requirements gathering, design, development, documentation, testing, and deployment
  • Experience in technical leadership or management
  • Experience with Agile, Software Development, and DevOps process
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Embedded Technologies
  • Experience with Real Time Operating System (VxWorks, Integrity)
  • Experience as Agile Scrum Master / Product Owner / Working in Agile teams
  • Experience with leading or working in Agile teams
  • Experience managing a product team and delivering periodic releases in a process-driven environment for a government customer
  • Strong C/C++, Python. and Linux
  • Demonstrated ability to build diverse/inclusive teams with engaged team members
  • Previous experience leading a team of 10+ employees with a record of on-time performance
  • Previous experience in developing proposal inputs (task descriptions and basis of estimate)
  • Time management and organizational skills to prioritize concurrent program and functional responsibilities
  • Prior experience with task/resource planning
Primary Level Salary Range: $161,100.00 - $241,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
