POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under supervision, perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, alteration, and repair of UCSD Transportation Services facilities, including offsite locations, and equipment; according to manufacturer’s specifications, departmental guidelines, trade practices, blueprints, shop drawings and schematics. Responsibilities to include the use of computerized work management systems, visual inspections, reporting maintenance related issues, and providing recommendations as specified by skilled personnel and/or supervisor.
The Sr Building Maintenance Worker may work independently, as part of a regular maintenance crew or assistants to skilled tradesmen. Provide painting, carpentry, rough concrete, install fire extinguisher/cabinets, irrigation repair, white boards, and the like; replace faulty electrical fixtures such as: fuses, outlets and switches, and make minor wiring repairs; remove and replace plumbing fixtures such as: faucets, etc.; operate and maintain a variety of power and hand tools of the various trades; clean, adjust, lubricate hardware of various types and office equipment such as fences, door closers, hinges, laminators, etc; and may drive or operate forklift, scissor lift, haul trailers and/or other related vehicles in the course of duties. Use assigned tools and power equipment in a safe and prescribed manner, avoiding misuse, breakage, or loss. Assist and support space planning tasks of office personnel and equipment. Provide high level of customer service. Actively monitor and inspect parking lots and structures for cleanliness, hazardous conditions and suspicious activity.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Two (2) years experience performing semi-skilled repair and maintenance work, including painting, plumbing and electrical trades, mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.
- Experience, knowledge and ability to use and maintain power and hand tools common to the building maintenance trade such as: various power cutting tools, drills, soldering equipment, hammers, Wrenches, Screwdrivers, Tape Measure, concrete and utility scanners, multi-meter, and the like.
- Knowledge and experience applying of building codes, rules and regulations, particularly as they apply to UCSD. Ability to read blueprints.
- General facilities maintenance experience; demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to accurately stencil and stripe parking lots/structures, as assigned.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
- Must be physically able to consistently perform job duties.
- Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate safety equipment. Ability to lift motors/components up to 50 lbs. using proper lifting techniques and devices. Physical ability to perform all job functions and duties. Ability to move through limited access spaces.
- Experience at the semi-skilled level in construction, maintenance, installation, fabrication and preparation procedures in one of the skilled craft trades.
- Ability to maintain inventory and control stock for assigned areas. Ability to safeguard key, tools and equipment.
- Knowledge and ability to work in a safe manner according to local, federal, and state requirements.
- Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to frequently changing priorities and work assignments.
- Skill to prioritize work assignments and coordinate work schedule with maintenance crew to meet established deadlines and department needs.
- Willingness and ability to perform all job duties utilizing knowledge and understanding of related safety practices.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to effectively work individually or in teams and ability to communicate effectively with people of many diverse backgrounds including students, staff, faculty, and customers.
- Must possess and maintain a valid CA Class C Driver License. Must maintain good driving record and participate in DMV pull notice program throughout duration of employment.
- Knowledge of proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to job functions.
- Effective verbal, written and electronic (e-mail) communication skills to interact with T&PS staff, all University employees, co-workers, external vendors and students.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- May be required to work different or altered shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime.
- Must have access to reliable transportation and/or valid California Class C Driver License to operate University vehicles.
- Required to hold valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
- FBI/DOJ background and DMV clearances required prior to employment.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $50,383 - $65,166 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $24.13 - $31.21
